Elbert "Gunner" Hall Walters

Elbert Hall Gunner Walters, 87, of Port Neches, Texas passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013 at the Meadows in Orange, Texas. Gunner was born in Beaumont, Texas on October 23, 1925 to the late Elbert Lee and Henrietta Hall Walters. Gunner served his country proudly in the U. S. Marine Corp during World War II and was a long time resident of Port Neches, Texas. He attended A M University, Lamar Junior College, and earned his bachelors degree from Southern Methodist University. For a short time he was employed by Texaco before being called home to help in his parents hardware store. From that date to retirement, Gunner made his career in Walters Hardware.Funeral services will be held at Melancons Funeral Home in Nederland on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at 10:00 a.m., Rev. Francis Schroeder officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at the funeral home.Gunner is preceded in death by his parents wife, Margie Ellen Walters and brother, Felix Walters, MD. He is survived by his stepdaughters, Cathy Calame and husband, Danny and Christy Day and husband, Charles 9 grandchildren and 5 greatgrandchildren.
