John E. "Johnny" Greene Sr.

September 19, 1941 — December 7, 2014

John E. “Johnny” Greene, Sr., 73, of Nederland, Texas passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2014 at his place of residence. He was born on September 19, 1941 in Port Arthur to the late Luke and Laura Belle Hebert Greene. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Bridge City.
Johnny grew up in Port Arthur and moved to Nederland in 1958. During his childhood, he liked to spend summers with his grandparents in Shelbyville, TX. He was very active in his younger days. Johnny was a Cub Scout for 3 years and a Boy Scout for 3 years, and an Eagle Scout with the 78th Troop. He held nearly every office in scouting, and he was also a member of Order of the Arrow. In 1955 at the Sabine Area Council BSA, he won a First Place Ribbon in a Class B Swim Meet. He enjoyed helping others, and also liked to take apart broken things and either repair or restore them.
Johnny graduated from Nederland High School in 1959. He attended Lamar College after high school. Johnny was a Carpenter and Master Plumber by trade and has memberships with the Carpenter’s Local #610 and Lamar University Cardinal Club. He was self-employed where he built homes and rental properties. He owned and operated the Greene Towne Apartments in Port Arthur, Greene Towne Motel in Nederland, and Spindletop Motel in Beaumont. He built many a home in Nederland between 1962 and 1978.
Johnny enjoyed fishing, dominos, and football. He spent a lot of time at Guilbeau’s Pool Hall on Twin City Highway playing straight dominos during rainy days. His favorite fishing lake was Toledo where he had a camp for over 30 years. During his last 10 years, he enjoyed flounder fishing with his favorite cousin, Bobby Green.
Johnny is survived by his wife of 27 years, Pat Greene of Nederland, TX; children, Faye Lyn Louvier and husband, Mike of Nederland, TX, John E. Greene, Jr. of Nederland, TX, and Jeanne Ann Guidry and husband, Scott of Nederland, TX; step-children, Dina R. Carr of Long Beach, CA, Dana Buchanan and husband, Kevin of Bridge City, TX, and Debi Garcia and husband, Ed of Port Neches, TX; grandchildren, Mike Louvier, Jr. and wife, Kara of Nederland, TX, Mack McPhatter and wife, Holly of Nederland, TX, Dr. Jennifer Weber and husband, Colin of Sugarland, TX, Marcus Louvier, Tiffany Spears and husband, Jason Ballance, Kevin Lee Buchanan II and wife, Viki of Bridge City, TX, Ashley Buchanan of Bridge City, TX, Dylan Buchanan of Bridge City, TX, Alex Kemp and Matthew Pardue, special friend, of Nederland, TX, Ayva and Emma Garcia of Port Neches, TX; great-grandchildren, Logan and Lana Louvier of Nederland, TX, Mason McPhatter of Lumberton, TX, Madden McPhatter of Nederland, TX, Owen and Clair Weber of Sugarland, TX, Braylee and Kimry Miller of Nederland, TX, Matthew Ballance of Nederland, TX, and Kameron and Ethan Ellis of Bridge City, TX; brother, David Greene and sister-in-law, Pam of Port Arthur, TX; nephews, Luke Greene and Clint Greene of Port Arthur, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents, the mother of his 3 children, Dorothy Sibley Greene, and grandparents, John Elzie Green and Neddie Marie Carter Green, and Raoul and Beatrice Marie Hebert.
Funeral Services will be held at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Paul Zoch officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches. A gathering of the family and friends will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Mike Louvier, Jr., Mack McPhatter, Marcus Louvier, Kevin Lee Buchanan II, Dylan Buchanan, and Clint Greene.
