Those left to cherish Abraham’s memory are his daughters, Rose Marie Chavira (Javier) of Houston, Eunice Contreras (Tony) of Galveston Island, Smirna C. Avendano (Carlos) of Port Arthur, Miriam Cardona (Juan) of Groves, Amada Reyes (Benny) of Groves and Christina Cabrales-Marquez (Everardo) of Port Arthur; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Arnulfo Cabrales; and his sisters Maria Luisa Saldivar and Rebecca Briones. Along with numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved very much. Rev. Abraham was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed deer, rabbit and even bear hunting. As a fisherman his most memorable catch was a three-foot shark off a pier on Galveston Island. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and although he worked hard, he made sure his Saturdays were free to spend with his daughters. Being of adventurous and inquisitive nature he took his family on adventurous getaways and taught them to appreciate God’s wonderful creation. Together the family went fishing, hiking, cave exploring, and visited national parks and various historical and art museums through out the states of Texas and New Mexico. In his latter years he enjoyed spending time with his grand children and hearing the laughter of his great-grandchildren. Although his sight was diminishing, he would enjoy it when the family got together, and he could hear laughter throughout the home. His favorite game with the family was ‘Loteria’, which he usually won with his favorite card. Rev. Abraham’s love of his life was his wife, Rosemarie, to whom he was married to for 56 wonderful years. He lovingly called her “Mi Reyna” (my queen). His favorite song to sing to her was “Preciosa”. Throughout their life they worked as a team serving the Lord and the church. Most importantly Rev. Abraham was a fisher of men dedicating his life to the service of the Lord along side his loving wife. Together they worked in the ministry for 46 years serving God in the United Methodist with the Rio Grande Conference in churches throughout Texas and New Mexico. He continued to service by preaching and testifying the good news even after retirement. His whole life was a testimony of his walk of faith with God. He touched the lives of many parishioners through his inspiring sermons which emphasized the Spirit of love and unity. He left a great inheritance to his family and congregations: The Word of God to live by. He left a legacy of faithful living that will inspire generations to come. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. “Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of the Lord” (Matt. 25:21). In lieu of flowers the family request that you please make a contribution to his beloved church “Getsemani United Methodist Church” at 1901 Williams Ave.. Port Arthur, TX 77642. Rev.
