Dorothy Jane Hubert Brignac

Dorothy Jane Hubert Brignac passed away peacefully on October 13, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 22, 1929 to Erno “Curley” Hubert and Emma Prejean Hubert in Nederland. She was the oldest of three children.
In March of 1948 Dot, as she was called, met the handsome, Russell P. Brignac, Sr. from Gramercy, Louisiana. Russell worked as an office manager for a construction company and sent Dot a ticket to Red Wing, Minnesota where they were married on January 19, 1949. Russell’s construction job took them all over the eastern seaboard and they lived in many places and made lots of friends.
They built their first home on Detroit in Nederland behind her parents’ house in 1957. Here they raised four children, Russell (Butch), Wanda, Michael, and Antoinette (Toni). In 1971, they moved to the Houston area lived there for 34 years. In 2005, they made the move back to Nederland to be closer to family.
In February 2010 she lost her husband of 61 years, Russell Brignac, Sr.
Dorothy loved hummingbirds, flowers and all things Cajun. She enjoyed traveling, meeting people and especially enjoyed visits from her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved Mardi Gras and was honored to be named the 2020 Mardi Gras Queen of Bonne Vie.
She lost her oldest son, Russell P. Brignac, Jr. in March of 2020. She is survived by sister, Betty Hubert Malone and husband, Richard, her daughter, Wanda Nicklebur and husband Jimmy of Nederland, her son, Michael A. Brignac, Sr. and wife, Norma of Friendswood and her daughter, Antoinette (Toni) Serena and husband, Bob of Charlotte, NC. Also cherishing her memory are her five grandchildren, James R. Nicklebur, Jessica Harber, Michael Brignac, Jr., Nicholas and Charlotte Serena, and nine great grandchildren.
A gathering of friends and relatives will be held Monday, October 19, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., at Melancon’s Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 19, 2020, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m., at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Houston, Texas.
