James “Jim” Thompson, 78, of Groves, Texas passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at the Forever Young Home in Groves. Jim was born of November 9, 1943 to the late, Pat Thompson, Sr. and Ethel Thompson. Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved his family with all his heart and enjoyed spending every moment possible with them. Jim was an avid golfer and spent much of his free time playing at the Babe Zaharias Golf Course in Port Arthur. Jim also enjoyed hunting, fishing and just being outdoors. Those left to cherish Jim’s memory include is loving wife of 20 years, Tonie Thompson of Groves; sons, James K. Thompson and his wife, Shawntaul of Orange, Jerry E. Thompson and his wife, Allison of Groves and Terry G. Thompson and his partner, Jeff Anderson of San Antonio; daughter, Melissa R. Halbert of Beaumont; grandchildren, Savannah Thompson, Kevin Thompson, Drake Thompson, Tyler Thompson and Megan Thompson; and great-grandchild, Calder Thompson. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Pat Thompson, Sr. and Ethel Thompson; brothers, Pat Thompson, Jr. and William “Bubba” Thompson. Jim’s family would like to thank Accent Care Hospice formerly Texas Home Health Hospice and the Forever Young Home in Groves for the loving care they provided. The family will have a private memorial service at a later date. Cremation is under the direction of Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland, Texas.
