    June 17, 1933 - April 13, 2021

Jo Ann T. Haltom, 87, of Nederland, Texas passed away on Tuesday, April 13, 2021. Jo Ann was born on June 17, 1933 in Nederland to the late, Rufus Tyer and Nina Plane Tyer. Jo Ann was a dedicated and faithful parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Nederland where she served as a member of the Alter Society for over 40 years and was also member of the St. Charles Bereavement Committee. She worked for many years as a clerk at Unocal and retired from McNeil Insurance Agency. Jo Ann enjoyed shopping, visiting with family and friends, going out to eat and visiting the casinos. She loved volunteering at the local hospitality center and at numerous retirement and assisted living communities. Jo Ann was a member of the Nederland Chamber of Commerce and a charter member of the Beta Delta Sorority. Those left to cherish Jo Ann’s memory include her brother, Hubert Tyer; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and the Haltom and Tyer families. The last 10 months of this journey would not have been possible without Nancy and Tony Resendez her dear friends and caregivers and her loving cousin, Carol Jean and Jack Hawthorne. Jo Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Rufus Tyer and Nina Plane Tyer; her husband, David Lee Haltom; sisters, Mary Elizabeth and Joyce Tibbetts. A special thank you to the staff at Texas Home Health Hospice, especially to Laytoya Kelly-Collins, our Angel Nurse. Also to the staff of Primary Care Anywhere, the staff and caregivers of Visiting Angels, especially Sara, Tina, Ramona and Ashley our special angels. They became family to us and we cannot thank them enough for their love, support and guidance. Nancy would also like to thank Melinda, Hallee and Debbie for providing amazing care when Jo Ann needed it the most. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Melancon’s Funeral Home on Friday, April 16, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., with the funeral service to begin at 11:00a.m., Father John Hughes, officiant.
